The leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations is due to falls, especially for our aging community members. Falls contribute to approximately 33% of injury related emergency department visits and 50% of injury related hospital admissions. While falls-related injuries occur at any age, injuries resulting from a fall are a big concern for older adults.
As part of our effort to reduce falls among older adults, we offer Stepping On Workshops.
Stepping On is an evidenced-based 7-week workshop that helps seniors reduce falls and build confidence. Each week, participants meet for two hours. Workshops are led by a healthcare professional and a peer leader. Local guest experts provide information on exercise, vision, safety, and medication. In addition, participants learn exercises to help them improve balance and increase strength.
