Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at St. Anthony Hospital is an innovative and transformative model for spiritual care education that draws students from all over the United States and the world. The St. Anthony Hospital CPE program offers Level I, Level II and Supervisory CPE in both year long CPE residency opportunities as well as single unit CPE internships.

St. Anthony Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center that includes Flight for Life Colorado, the first air-medical transport program in the country, serving a nine state region. Our program offers clinical experience in trauma, emergency, medical surgical units, ICU, patient rehabilitation, and palliative care.  The hospital's health care team and associates are also recipients of emotional and spiritual support by chaplains.

Through clinical reflection on patient care, group peer consultation and individual supervision, students learn the art of mediating compassion for patients and loved ones in the here-and-now moments of crisis, transition and loss. Chaplain residents and interns are an integrated part of the spiritual care team and often take on leadership roles in the department. The CPE program at St. Anthony Hospital is open to religious leaders, health care professionals, physicians and lay persons.

CPE at St. Anthony Hospital belongs to a larger statewide Centura Health CPE systems center. In 1996, Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and the Adventist Health System (AHS), came together to form Centura Health in Denver, Colo. Committed to the mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ, CHI and AHS each build upon their unique history, heritage and traditions to create a faith-based entity designed to advance the mission of their individual organizations. Both sponsors have preserved a commitment to their values and an understanding of the vital role that ministering to spiritual needs can play in health care. Patients and Associates at Centura Health entities represent a wide range of spiritual and religious traditions, and care is offered based on a person's individual needs.
