Is Sea Salt lower in salt than table salt? 61% of the population think it is, but it's actually not the case.
Table salt comes from underground salt deposits. Anti-caking agents are added to prevent clumping, as well as iodine. The minerals are lost in processing. Sea salt is made from evaporated sea water. It contains magnesium, calcium, and other minerals.
Both contain the same amount of sodium by weight and have the same effect on blood pressure.
The current salt intake recommendatin is 2300 mgs/day (1 teaspoon per day or less). Sea Salt is no lower in sodium than table salt, but certainly has a good flavor. Many good cooks feel that a little sea salt adds more flavor.
