  • Heart and Vascular Diagnostics and Interventions at St. Anthony Hospital

When you choose St. Anthony Hospital in Denver for your heart and vascular care, you’re assured the advanced testing and interventions that lead to optimal outcomes. Our cardiologists, interventional radiologists, nurses and technicians work closely in diagnosing and assessing heart disease, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, heart arrhythmias, valve disease and more.

    Common tests include:

    • Electrocardiography (EKG or ECG) - An electrocardiogram measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat.
    • Blood Testing - Detecting certain cardiac enzymes or heart damage markers in the blood can tell physicians if heart muscle damage is occurring.
    • Cardiac Catheterization - A cardiac catheterization provides direct information about the blood pressures and blood-flow patterns within the heart.
    • Echocardiogram (Echo)  - Specialists use this “ultrasound movie” of the inside of the heart to detect congenital heart defects and other problems related to heart muscle function.
    • Electrophysiology (EP) - An EP study is a specialized type of cardiac catheterization that provides information about the heart's electrical or rhythm function.
    • Exercise Tests - Exercise tests are used to analyze heart rhythm, determine stamina and measure the heart’s use of oxygen. The patient runs on a treadmill or rides an exercise bike at increasing speeds and/or resistance while sensors continuously record the heart rhythm.
    • Nuclear Medicine/ Myocardial Perfusion - This test can help determine the cause of chest pain, safe levels of exercise, the extent of a coronary artery blockage, a post-heart attack prognosis and how effective cardiac procedures have been in improving circulation.
    • Cardiac CT - The CT scan is a noninvasive way to capture images of the heart and lungs without using catheters. Pictures are generally clearer than angiograms and the procedure is faster than an MRI.
    • Cardiac MRI - Magnetic resonance imaging is the "gold standard" for obtaining clear images of the heart and measuring function.

Having dedicated invasive heart and vascular labs enables us to provide these critical interventions, 24/7:

    • Cardiac Cath procedures, including balloon, stent, drug-eluting stent, rotoblator TM, angiojet TM, DCA, cutting balloon, brachy therapy, percusurge and filter-wire procedures
    • Electrophysiology and ablation using the latest FDA-approved technology such as cryoablation for atrial fibrillation
    • Full angiographic diagnostics, including wave wire and intravascular ultrasound
    • Integrated acute myocardial response with direct intervention
    • Permanent pacemaker implants including dual chamber, AICD and biventricular pacing.
