    The Surgery Residency at St. Anthony Hospital is sponsored by the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College (KCU).  KCU is a private university comprised of a College of Osteopathic Medicine, founded in 1916, and a College of Biosciences.  Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College is the oldest medical school in Kansas City, Mo., and the largest in Missouri.  The College of Osteopathic Medicine is recognized as a leader in osteopathic medical education and health care by exceeding standards of academic and clinical achievement.

    Centura Health

    Centura Health has been hosting residency training programs throughout the nation for some time. At St. Anthony Hospital, our Surgery residency program just started July 2014.

    Our Residents enjoy a unique opportunity in helping to shape this new program. We value their feedback and rely on them to help facilitate their learning and professional experience.


    The St. Anthony Hospital General Surgery residency program is committed to assuring excellence in osteopathic surgical education through training and self-directed learning, patient care and advocacy, and leadership development.  We seek to foster continuing personal growth and professional relationships.

    Overall Program Goals

    The goals of the St Anthony Hospital Osteopathic Residency in General Surgery are:

    • To provide residents with comprehensive structured cognitive and procedural clinical education in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • To provide training in all general surgery aspects that will enable them to become competent, proficient and professional osteopathic surgeons upon completion from the training program.
    • Train surgeons who after having passed the qualifying and certifying examinations of the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery will remain lifelong learners, teacher and leaders in a constantly changing environment.
