Nearly 30 Percent Of Centura Health Hospitals In Top 5 Percent Nationally As Recognized By Healthgrades

    January 17,2017

(CENTENNIAL, COLO.) Five Centura Health hospitals received the 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, Healthgrades announced today. They are:

    • Littleton Adventist Hospital, Littleton
    • Parker Adventist Hospital, Parker
    • Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, Colorado Springs*
    • Porter Adventist Hospital, Denver
    • St. Anthony Hospital, Lakewood

Healthgrades presents this award to the top 5 percent of hospitals nationally based on a variety of clinical factors. That means nearly one-third of Centura Health’s 17 hospitals are in the country’s top 5 percent.

“We are truly honored to receive this recognition from Healthgrades. More important than a plaque on the wall, this is a direct reflection of the hard work and tireless efforts of our associates and providers to provide world-class care to our patients and truly make our Mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ real each and every day,” said Peter D. Banko, president and chief operating officer, Centura Health.

The Centura Health network dedicates comprehensive resources to employing evidence-based clinical protocols, monitoring outcomes throughout its network and maintaining an unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes. The goal is to deliver consistent, seamless care, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes, increased service and convenience, and lower health care costs.

“All of our hospitals provide excellent care. The collaboration and focus on our strategic plan, Centura Health 2020, supports our entire network in leveraging evidence-based protocols and focusing on lifelong health, not just acute interventions. We are providing a continuous influx of new services and resources across the continuum of care to optimize health value and meet consumers’ needs throughout Colorado and western Kansas,” continued Banko.

From 2013 through 2015, patients treated in hospitals receiving Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence had, on average, a 26.2% lower risk of dying (across 19 procedures and conditions where mortality is the clinical outcome), than if they were treated in hospitals that did not achieve this distinction. During this same period, if all other hospitals performed at the level of Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence across these 19 procedures and conditions, 160,322 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that achieved the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award had, on average, a 25% lower risk of dying from a stroke than if treated at a hospital that did not achieve this distinction.

“Consumers are doing their research when it comes to selecting the hospital where they receive their care, and high-marks in quality are a valuable differentiator that can set organizations apart,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend hospitals that have achieved Healthgrades 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to high quality care for their patients.”

The 258 recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2017 study period (2013-2015), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures —as measured by objective clinical outcomes performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications). *Penrose-St. Francis Health Services includes Penrose Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center, which operate under a single federal license and are considered one hospital by Healthgrades.
